How Does Your Stomach Keep From Digesting Itself?

Your stomach is a vital part of digestion. Some say it is where the digesting process begins, but with all that digesting how does the stomach just not digest itself? well here is why.
The stomach has four linings; serosa, two muscle linings, and mucosa. These all play their part in protecting the stomach from the harmful acid inside. Series is the outer layer, which basically acts as a cover, the two muscle linings that propel the food into the small intestine, and mucosa the inner lining that is made entirely up of specialized cells. The specialized cells act as a repellent towards the hydrochloric acid thus saving it from harm.
Parietal Cells: Produce hydrochloric acid, a strong acid that helps to break down food.
G-Cells: Produce gastrin, a hormone that facilitates the production of hydrochloric acid by the Parietal cells.
Epithelial Cells: Protect the stomach by producing and secreting a bicarbonate-rich solution that coats the mucosa.
Although the stomach may defect and begin to grow an ulcer which is threatening towards the linings and if not treated soon can be very harmful.
So overall it is impossible to digest your own stomach, although harmful components can lead to serious damage, you should be safe! so don't worry eat those carbs! (in moderation)
