What is Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva?

This disorder, known as FOP for short is quite crazy when you analyze its affect, and begin to question is this even possible? short answer; yes.
Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva occurs when your muscle tissue and connective tissue (ligaments, tendons etc.) are gradually replaced by bone. Radically turning your body to stone! This essentially causes the person to form a second skeleton, new bones that would stretch farther or fuse to her original skeleton and locking her body into stillness overtime. FOP is a very rare diseases that affects less than 700 people in the worldwide, although it is rare is it by far the most intriguing and excruciating disease I have ever encountered. Just imagine Medusa turning a human to stone, but this time it is slower and is internal. In some cases steroids are even used to assist with flare ups. "stone man syndrome" as it's also known as is incurable, and can leave patients immobilized, a living statue.
